Jim and I have spent more time working on the yard and I think we are making some good progress! There were some up and downs though…he hacked up my hibiscus plants! The funny thing I learned later was that Stella gave him a hard time about it after she saw what he did. That’s my little gardener! I don’t think he realized what he was doing because there may not have been any buds on them but I wish he would have talked to me first.
To make myself feel better I took my frustration out on some of the overgrowth that had been driving me crazy, the above picture is the results of that. Upside, I discovered some nice brick borders under all that foliage! There are also some major bald spots that we need to fill in now. The more time I spend in that yard the more I realize that I probably don’t need to run out and buy much, I can simply move plants to better locations. I’m a little worried about that idea though, since I don’t have a very green thumb I fear that if I dig plants up to move I will end up killing them. Still, considering my budget, I need to give it a shot. Luckily, it seems easy to find information about how to dig up and divide hostas. This video by Oklahoma Gardening’s Kim Toscano seems pretty informative Transplanting Hostas. Thanks, Kim!
Other backyard news? Oh, why yes…we found a mama cat and her 3 kittens snuggled up between our fence and our neighbors garage. These kittens are SUPER cute and if we didn’t already have 2 rather spectacular cats and 1 very mouthy dog, we’d probably consider taking them in. However, we clearly cannot do this so I’m hoping to find someone out there who is looking for an adorable pet opportunity. If that might be you and you live in the Chicago area please get in touch asap!
